Program Description:
Buenos Aires

Established in 1964, the Universidad de Belgrano (UB) has a student population of approximately 11,500 students, 2,000 of which are international students. Students electing to study at UB will take courses taught in English, and will take a Spanish language course appropriate to their level to integrate into the culture and study body.

Founded in 1536, Argentina’s capital, Buenos Aires, is often referred to as “the Paris of Latin America”. Within this immense, yet surprisingly navigable Latin American metropolis, elegant 19th Century buildings and café life offer glimpses of Europe and the Middle East. A vibrant port city, Buenos Aires is also the world’s leading Spanish language publishing center. With a population of 13 million, Buenos Aires offers its visitors the chance to experience the perpetual cultural intrigue that can only be found in a city of this size and prestige.

Students will enroll in 5 courses while at the Universidad de Belgrano, each worth three (3) U.S. credits, for a total of 15 credits. One of these courses will be a Spanish language course, and students will then select their remaining four courses from the provided course list, found here

Students in Buenos Aires live with local host families. Host families serve as a unique introduction into Argentine culture and may be a married couple with children, a divorced or widowed woman with or without children still at home, or a family with some members living at home and others living outside of the city during the work week. Students may be housed with other API study abroad students or international students, and in all cases will have an individual room. Students are provided with two meals per day, as well as laundry service once per week.

Housing Deposit
Once accepted, students must submit a $275 housing deposit directly to API through their online student portal. A portion of this deposit is retained for maintenance fees following the conclusion of the program, and students are eligible to receive the remainder as a refund barring any damages to their housing.

Health and Safety

All students will travel abroad with GeoBlue international health insurance, which is purchased by the College. Students will receive an electronic and hard copy of their insurance card, and should a doctor's visit (commonly referred to as hospital visit abroad) be necessary, they should reach out to their on-site study abroad coordinator/resident director. Students will be required to contact GeoBlue prior to their appointment, unless of course in the case of an emergency, and should follow the procedures outlined here.

Students are also encouraged to register themselves in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), a free service provided by the U.S. government to U.S. citizens traveling abroad. STEP allows Americans abroad to receive updates from the nearest embassy or consulate and allows the Department of State to better assist you in an emergency.
